Dados da percepção de risco permitiram compreender que o alegado alheamento dos cidadãos face ao problema se encontrava na incontrolabilidade da praga (impossível de erradicar) e do sistema de gestão accionado (sentido como ineficaz na capacidade de dar resposta às necessidades sociais existentes). Um risco de complexidade induzida causado por uma falta de confiança mútua entre cidadãos e instituições requerendo a mediação das diferentes perspetivas e interesses em presença, uma vez que cada um dos stakeholders (decisores políticos, investigadores e cidadãos) se acusavam reciprocamente da responsabilidade pelo agravamento da infestação

    Exploiting vehicular social networks and dynamic clustering to enhance urban mobility management

    Transport authorities are employing advanced traffic management system (ATMS) to improve vehicular traffic management efficiency. ATMS currently uses intelligent traffic lights and sensors distributed along the roads to achieve its goals. Furthermore, there are other promising technologies that can be applied more efficiently in place of the abovementioned ones, such as vehicular networks and 5G. In ATMS, the centralized approach to detect congestion and calculate alternative routes is one of the most adopted because of the difficulty of selecting the most appropriate vehicles in highly dynamic networks. The advantage of this approach is that it takes into consideration the scenario to its full extent at every execution. On the other hand, the distributed solution needs to previously segment the entire scenario to select the vehicles. Additionally, such solutions suggest alternative routes in a selfish fashion, which can lead to secondary congestions. These open issues have inspired the proposal of a distributed system of urban mobility management based on a collaborative approach in vehicular social networks (VSNs), named SOPHIA. The VSN paradigm has emerged from the integration of mobile communication devices and their social relationships in the vehicular environment. Therefore, social network analysis (SNA) and social network concepts (SNC) are two approaches that can be explored in VSNs. Our proposed solution adopts both SNA and SNC approaches for alternative route-planning in a collaborative way. Additionally, we used dynamic clustering to select the most appropriate vehicles in a distributed manner.     Acúmulo e participação de macronutrientes em plantas de pimentão fertirrigadas

    Information on nutrient demand during each growth stage is essential for efficient application of nutrients. A pot experiment was carried out with a Typic Hapludox under greenhouse conditions in Botucatu, SP, Brazil, aiming was to determine nutrient uptake and partition of sweet pepper plants, cultivar Elisa in randomized block design with four replications. The fertigation was simulated through 2-L PET bottles (neck down with a tube and a flow regulator at the end, simulating a drip irrigation system). Four plants per replication were collected at eight growth stages (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120 and 140 days after the seedling transplant - DAT). The period of largest extraction of nutrients for the plant occurred from 120 to 140 DAT, which coincides with the highest accumulation of dry phytomass. The highest Mg and Ca accumulation occurred in the leaves, while N, K, S and P were mostly accumulated in the fruits. Only 8 to 13% of the total amount of the accumulated macronutrientes at 140 DAT were absorbed up to the 60th DAT. Between the 61st and 100th DAT, K was the most absorbed macronutrient (60% of the macronutrients accumulated during the whole cycle). P, Ca and S were the most absorbed nutrients at the end of the cycle. Considering rates (g per plant), the most absorbed macronutrients were: N (6.6) >; K (6.4) >; Ca (2.6) >; Mg (1.3) >; S (1.1) >; P (0.7).A demanda de nutrientes em cada etapa do crescimento de uma planta é uma informação essencial para que se possa aplicar os nutrientes de forma mais eficiente. Com objetivo de determinar a marcha de absorção e a partição de macronutrientes em plantas de pimentão cultivar Elisa foi conduzido um experimento em vasos de 29 dm³ contendo um Latossolo Vermelho aluminoférrico sob condições de cultivo protegido em Botucatu, SP em delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições. A fertirrigação foi simulada utilizando garrafas (2 L) com uma mangueira e um controlador de vazão na extremidade.Foram coletadas quatro plantas por repetição, em oito épocas (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, e 140 dias após o transplantio das mudas DAT). O período de maior extração de nutrientes pela planta ocorreu de 120 aos 140 DAT coincidindo com o maior acúmulo de fitomassa seca. O maior acúmulo de Mg e Ca ocorreu nas folhas, enquanto, N, K, S e o P foram mais acumulados nos frutos. Apenas 8 a 13% da quantidade total dos macronutrientes acumulados em 140 DAT foram absorvidos até os 60 DAT. Dos 61 aos 100 DAT o K foi o macronutriente mais absorvido (60% do total acumulado no ciclo); P, Ca e S foram mais absorvidos no final do ciclo. Os macronutrientes mais absorvidos foram, em g por planta: N (6,6) >; K (6,4) >; Ca (2,6) >; Mg (1,3) >; S (1,1) >; P (0,7)

    Skipping-based handover algorithm for video distribution over ultra-dense VANET

    Next-generation networks will pave the way for video distribution over vehicular Networks (VANETs), which will be composed of ultra-dense heterogeneous radio networks by considering existing communication infrastructures to achieve higher spectral efficiency and spectrum reuse rates. However, the increased number of cells makes mobility management schemes a challenging task for 5G VANET, since vehicles frequently switch among different networks, leading to unnecessary handovers, higher overhead, and ping-pong effect. In this sense, an inefficient handover algorithm delivers videos with poor Quality of Experience (QoE), caused by frequent and ping-pong handover that leads to high packets/video frames losses. In this article, we introduce a multi-criteria skipping-based handover algorithm for video distribution over ultra-dense 5G VANET, called Skip-HoVe. It considers a skipping mechanism coupled with mobility prediction, Quality of Service (QoS)- and QoE-aware decision, meaning the handovers are made more reliable and less frequently. Simulation results show the efficiency of Skip-HoVe to deliver videos with Mean Opinion Score (MOS) 30% better compared to state-of-the-art algorithms while maintaining a ping-pong rate around 2%.publishe

    Service Provisioning in Edge-Cloud Continuum Emerging Applications for Mobile Devices

    Disruptive applications for mobile devices can be enhanced by Edge computing facilities. In this context, Edge Computing (EC) is a proposed architecture to meet the mobility requirements imposed by these applications in a wide range of domains, such as the Internet of Things, Immersive Media, and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles. EC architecture aims to introduce computing capabilities in the path between the user and the Cloud to execute tasks closer to where they are consumed, thus mitigating issues related to latency, context awareness, and mobility support. In this survey, we describe which are the leading technologies to support the deployment of EC infrastructure. Thereafter, we discuss the applications that can take advantage of EC and how they were proposed in the literature. Finally, after examining enabling technologies and related applications, we identify some open challenges to fully achieve the potential of EC, and also research opportunities on upcoming paradigms for service provisioning. This survey is a guide to comprehend the recent advances on the provisioning of mobile applications, as well as foresee the expected next stages of evolution for these applications

    SOD PRODUCTION AND NUTRIENT EXTRACTION BY EMERALD ZOYSIAGRASS WITH SPLIT NITROGEN APPLICATIONS

    Nitrogen is the nutrient that provides the best grass growth responses, and proper nitrogen fertilization can enable the formation of sod in less time and firm enough to be handled after harvest. The aim of this study was to evaluate production and nutrient extraction of Emerald zoysiagrass (Zoysia japônica Steud.) according to the splitting of nitrogen doses. Treatments consisted of five doses (0, 150, 300, 450 and 600 kg ha-1) divided in to four applications, provided the formation of Emerald zoysiagrass sods six months after the previous sod harvest. Nutrient extraction by Emerald zoysiagrass occurs in the descending order, em kg ha-1: N (207) > K (57) > (Ca) > S (27) > P (14) = Mg (14).

    Nutrient dynamics in soil solution in a fertigated citrus orchard

    O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a dinâmica de nutrientes na solução do solo após a aplicação, via fertirrigação, de nitrogênio, fósforo e potássio a laranjeiras. O experimento foi realizado entre setembro de 2007 e outubro de 2009, em pomares de laranjeiras 'Valência' e 'Hamlin', enxertadas sobre citrumeleiro 'Swingle'. Foram avaliadas cinco doses de N, P2O5 e K2O (0, 25, 50, 100 e 200% da dose recomendada). A solução do solo foi extraída a 30 e 60 cm de profundidade, com o auxílio de extratores com cápsulas porosas. Foram realizadas 11 avaliações durante o período experimental, com as extrações iniciadas após 12 horas das fertirrigações. O aumento das doses reduziu o pH (pH~3,5, na maior dose), e aumentou a condutividade elétrica (CE~1,5 dS m-1, na maior dose) e os teores de NH4, NO3, P, K, Mn e Zn na solução do solo, nas duas profundidades amostradas. Nos meses com maior precipitação pluvial, houve perda potencial de nutrientes por lixiviação, pois maiores concentrações de NO3, K e B foram observadas à profundidade de 60 cm. A análise da solução do solo, obtida por extratores com cápsula de cerâmica porosa, pode ser considerada ferramenta auxiliar para monitorar e avaliar a disponibilidade de nutrientes às plantas.The objective of this work was to evaluate nutrient dynamics in soil solution after fertigated application of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium to orange trees. The experiment was carried out from September 2007 to October 2009, in 'Valência' and 'Hamlin' orange orchards grafted onto citrumelo 'Swingle' rootstock. Five doses of N, P2O5 and K2O (0, 25, 50, 100 and 200% of the recommended dose) were evaluated. Soil solution was extracted from 30 and 60 cm soil depths using extractors with porous cups. Eleven evaluations were done during the experimental period, with extractions beginning 12 hours after fertigation. Increasing nutrient doses decreased pH (pH~3.5, at the highest dose), and increased electrical conductivity (CE~1.5 dS m-1, at the highest dose) and the amounts of NH4, NO3, P, K, Mn, and Zn in the soil solution, in both sampled depths. In the months with heavier rainfall, there was nutrient potential losses by leaching, since higher concentrations of NO3, K, and B were observed at the 60 cm soil depth. Soil solution analysis, obtained by extractors with porous ceramic cups, can be considered an auxiliary tool for monitoring and assessing nutrient availability to plants

    Socially Inspired Data Dissemination for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

    International audiencePeople have routines and their mobility patterns vary during the day, which have a direct impact on vehicular mobility. Therefore, proto-cols and applications designed for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks need to adapt to these routines in order to provide better services. With this issue in mind, in this work, we propose a data dissemination solution for these networks that considers the daily road traffic vari-ation of large cities and the relationship among vehicles. The focus of our approach is to select the best vehicles to rebroadcast data messages according to social metrics, in particular, the clustering coefficient and the node degree. Moreover, our solution is designed in such a way that it is completely independent of the perceived road traffic density. Simulation results show that, when compared to related protocols, our proposal provides better delivery guarantees, reduces the network overhead and possesses an acceptable delay

    Data Communication in VANETs: Survey, Applications and Challenges

    International audienceVANETs have emerged as an exciting research and application area. Increasingly vehicles are being equipped with embedded sensors, processing and wireless communication capabilities. This has opened a myriad of possibilities for powerful and potential life-changing applications on safety, efficiency, comfort, public collaboration and participation, while they are on the road. Although, considered as a special case of a Mobile Ad Hoc Network, the high but constrained mobility of vehicles bring new challenges to data communication and application design in VANETs. This is due to their highly dynamic and intermittent connected topology and different application's QoS requirements. In this work, we survey VANETs focusing on their communicationand application challenges. In particular, we discuss the protocol stack of this type of network, and provide a qualitative comparison between most common protocols in the literature. We then present a detailed discussion of dfferent categories of VANET applications. Finally, we discuss open research problems to encourage the design of new VANET solutions
